CURRICULUM

Module 1: Intro to Agile Values and Principles

Module 1 covers the Agile Values and Principles that are outlined in the Agile Manifesto. We will also compare traditional ways of working to Agile, Iterative and Incremental development. Finally, we will briefly explore the leader's role in agile and how that might differ from a more traditional role.

Module 2: Benefits of Agile and Popular Agile Frameworks

In Module 2, we will look at the benefits of Agile and explore some of the most popular Agile Frameworks including Scrum, Kanban, Extreme Programming and Lean Software Development. We will also look at how agile teams shift from plan-driven to value-driven approaches.

Module 3: Planning Agile Projects

Module 3 extends the discussion on planning and we look at a technique called release planning which is the rough equivalent of traditional project planning. We will do an exercise to help us understand relative estimating which is widely used in agile. And then, we will learn how to create realistic forecasts for project schedules and budgets.

Module 4: Exploring Scrum and High-Performing Teams

In Module 4 we do a deep dive into Scrum which is by far the most popular of the agile methods. We will also look at some of the factors affecting team performance and what it takes to create high-performing teams. This is something I get really excited about - team performance. Why should we have lackluster or mediocre teams when we could have high-performing teams? We will also look at techniques to track team performance and take corrective action.

Module 5: Working Together As An Agile Team

In Module 5 we will have an opportunity to apply what we have learned about Scrum in an online Scrum simulation exercise. We will actually use Scrum in our small group to complete an exercise. Through the collective experience of the team you will build something valuable even if you have no Scrum experience or Agile experience of any kind. We will also look at a decision framework for evaluating and resolving conflict within teams.

Module 6: Miscellaneous Agile Topics and the PMI-ACP Exam

Module 6 is the final module. We will look at leading agile teams, communications for agile teams and a technique from lean called Value Stream Mapping that has been used to evaluate the work of an organization. Finally we will look in detail at the PMI-ACP exam and provide you an opportunity for you to experience a short practice exam.
